20 Song Lyrics Meme
Who am I to pass up a trendy meme?

Taken from [info]deralte and half my friends list: On your current playlist, hit shuffle and pick the first twenty songs on the list (no matter how cheesy or embarrassing), and write down your favourite lyrics. Then, have your friends comment and see if they know the songs.

1. Given the time I think she would have understood that it was for the greater good.
2. Should we talk about the weather? Should we talk about the government?
3. Burn down the disco. Hang the blessed DJ.
4. Let me clip your dirty wings.
5. He said, "Don't bury me cause I'm not dead yet."
6. A hangman's rope pulls me one way or the other.
7. Crooked spin can't come to rest. I'm damaged bad at best.
8. I never blinked back at fireflies.
9. You miss too much these days if you stop to think.
10. And the cruel, cruel mornings have turned to days of swim or sink.
11. Your drug is a heartbreaker.
12. Hush, you're in a story I heard somebody told
13. Tell me, where is the shepherd for this lost lamb?
14. You say that you're the black sheep, I say you're still family.
15. It's a wonder that you still know how to breathe.
16. Maybe I'm too young to keep good love from going wrong.
17. Yeah, how long must you wait for it?
18. I wrap my fear around me like a blanket.
19. Tell all of my friends (I don't have too many, just some rain-coated lovers' puny brothers).
20. The rhythm of life unties me, brushing the hands of time away.

Sheesh. What an obscure lot (with one notable exception from a recent hit). Good luck!

Seven is "Say Yes" by Elliott Smith. Some of the others sound vaguely familiar, but I can't place them.

Nine is U2's Until the End of the World. Thirteen is Sinead O'Connor, I think --? Two and eighteen are familiar but I just can't place them.

Camassia

Yes on 9, nope on 13.

Honestly, if someone had given me this list, I wouldn't have gotten most of them.

Nope on 8, yes on 13. #8 is another classic, like "Someone to Watch Over Me."

A cooperative effort:

2. Pop Song 89 (we think) from R.E.M.'s Green
4. Polly (Nirvana)
5. Mystery Dance (Elvis Costello)
7. Say Yes (Elliott)
9. Lauren got this (U2, End of the World); Brian knew it sounded familiar but couldn't place it.
11. Say It Ain't So (Weezer)
15. Idiot Wind (Dylan)
18. Closer to Fine (Indigo Girls)

I should have expected you two would do well on this. You got most of the ones that you could have--I'm not sure you listen to some of the others.

As far as knowing the songs goes . . . together you had a shot at #6, #12, #16, and #17.

But I'm still impressed. I haven't gotten more than one on anyone else's list.

Aha... #6 is Beck, I think something off Mutations. Cold Brains? That was tough... I got the tune after you said I should know it, and went over it in my head for about 5 minutes before I got it.

#17 sounds familiar too. I think I sort of have the tune, but I'm not there yet.

#12 and 16 I still have no clue. Maybe those are for Lauren... I hope. =)

#17 was one of those way-overplayed-on-the-radio songs.

You're more likely to know #12; Lauren's more likely to know #16.

Ok, 17 is Coldplay, right? Is it In My Place? I have a hard time distinguishing their songs in my head.

Eep. Well, there are several that sound familiar, but either it's too early or I just don't know any. *sigh*

I think I only know two songs:

#14 "40 Acres" by Caedmon's Call (or at least it's on that album...)

and I knew #18, but Brilau already guessed it... (so I won't repeat them).

Just wanted to throw in my two cents! :)

#3 is The Smiths - "Panic"
#8 is Ella Fitzgerald - "You Have to Swing It (Mr. Paganini)"
#13 is also Ella Fitzgerald - "Someone to Watch over Me"
#9, #11, and #17 - definitely not obscure.
